Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin Welcomes Blockchain Pioneers at the Federal Palace

A Strong Sign for the Future of the Blockchain Industry in Switzerland

Bern, 16 June 2025 – Today, Crypto Valley is one of the world’s leading blockchain hubs: In just twelve years, Switzerland has become home to over 1,700 companies in the sector. This strong growth reflects entrepreneurial drive, technological innovation, and international trust in Switzerland as a business location.

Against this backdrop, the Swiss Blockchain Federation (SBF) today invited almost 30 of the most prominent blockchain pioneers to the Federal Palace – as a sign of appreciation. With their projects and companies, they have played a key role in strengthening Switzerland’s reputation as a technology and innovation center. In the heart of Swiss democracy, they were thanked for their pioneering spirit, their innovative strength, and their confidence in Switzerland’s regulatory framework.

Federal Councillor Parmelin: “Positioning Switzerland as a Leading Blockchain Hub”

Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin welcomed the guests and emphasized in his speech the importance of the blockchain industry for Switzerland as a center of innovation and technology. Blockchain and crypto are no longer niche topics, said the Minister of Economic Affairs, thanking entrepreneurs for their commitment to Switzerland. He recalled his visit to Crypto Valley in February 2025 and expressed his admiration for the well-functioning ecosystem that spans several cantons. “The Federal Council is committed to positioning Switzerland as a leading blockchain hub in the long term,” said Federal Councillor Parmelin. This can be achieved by upholding the principle of technological neutrality and regulating only as much as necessary.

Heinz Tännler, President of the Swiss Blockchain Federation and Minister of Finance of the Canton of Zug, together with Senator Matthias Michel, Head of the SBF’s Policy Working Group, moderated the event. During a guided tour of the Federal Palace, participants gained a firsthand look at the center of Swiss democracy. Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin personally welcomed the guests and emphasized in his speech the importance of the blockchain industry for Switzerland as a hub of innovation and technology.

Global competition is intensifying

The discussions made it clear: Over the past few years, Switzerland has established itself as an internationally recognized blockchain center. Many blockchain companies and foundations that are well-known today worldwide chose Switzerland as their base and have always believed in the opportunities offered by the country. However, international competition has intensified. Legal uncertainties, regulatory challenges, and increasing global location pressure are putting Switzerland’s attractiveness as a blockchain hub to the test.

Heinz Tännler emphasized:
“Global competition has increased, and Switzerland cannot afford to stand still. Industry, politics, and public administration must now take action together to safeguard our leading position. Together, we can send a powerful signal. With this event at the Federal Palace, we wanted to honor the blockchain pioneers whose commitment has been instrumental in Switzerland’s rise as a global blockchain center. At the same time, we want to set the course for the future of the blockchain industry. That’s why we are very grateful that Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin supports our cause and the blockchain sector.”

During the event, crypto financial services provider Bitcoin Suisse, law firm MME, and Dfinity – developer of the Internet Computer blockchain – showcased how groundbreaking blockchain innovations are being practically implemented and shaped in Switzerland.

In addition, the jointly developed 12-point program to strengthen Switzerland as a financial center was presented and discussed. The manifesto aims to improve the regulatory framework, ensure legal certainty, and secure Switzerland’s long-term competitiveness as a leading blockchain hub. It is supported by the Swiss Blockchain Federation, Crypto Valley Association, Bitcoin Association Switzerland, DAO Suisse, and Swiss FinTech.
